Coincidences

Is there a difference between coincidence and chance? My answer is yes.

Chance is a risk. It is a probability that something may or may not happen. Coincidence is truth. It is a set or series of circumstances that is meant to happen. The ultimate coincidence is referred to as synchronicity. An example of chance; the weather forecaster predicts a chance of rain. It may rain or it may not. The probability of rain may change depending on the influencing factors such as barometric pressure, temperature and atmospheric climate.

An example of coincidence is you think of a friend you haven’t heard from in while and they call or stop by. Or, you think you may be pregnant and suddenly all you hear about is motherhood and a number of things remind you of babies. A few weeks later you find out you are. Coincidences are linked events or sets of circumstances that let you know you are on the right track spiritually. Synchronicity is when it seems everything in the universe is in line.

For me, it seems as if I’ve had a number of coincidences or small events that have been presenting themselves to me since I was very young to let me know what my spiritual path should be. Like most people, I never understood the significance of coincidences and seemed to shrug them off or chalk them up to childhood behavior. In college, I also received the message more clearly and started to pursue my path, but was side tracked due to family illness and other life circumstances. Now I am at a place in my life where I finally feel as though things are falling into place and I finally opened up my eyes and ears to see and hear what has been around me all along.

As a child I was wildly "imaginative." I talked to trees and rocks and would spend hours in the woods behind my house talking to "imaginary" friends. I was raised to believe in God and could never understand why we had to go to church only to talk to him. I always believed if I was going to pray it should be outside worshiping God's creation. As I was falling asleep at night I would hear a radio frequency that seemed to have garbled voices and I was the only one who heard it so I learned quickly to not mention it. I prayed for it to go away and finally it did.

In college, my roommate was a practicing Wiccan who enlightened me on many spiritual topics. We would spend hours together trying to develop our psychic abilities. We also studied Wicca as well as other religions and found that it doesn't really matter what religion you practice. Every religion has its own version of the golden rule and what you send out into the universe comes back to you.

On the particularly long and boring winter nights we cut Greek letters out of construction paper and taped them to our wall above the window. What we spelled out was "Dedicated to all who seek knowledge because knowledge banishes fear."

After college, I continued my reading and practicing solitary Wicca, but never really understood how the pieces fit together. I soon found my own way to worship spiritually which was a combination of the religion I was raised as and the Wicca and other religions I studied. Your spiritual path can be anything you choose it to be as long as you have faith and believe.

Over the past couple of years I was fortunate to meet another friend who is a spiritual healer and psychic medium. She also practices Wicca. I went to one of her classes on Fairies and after that, it seemed like everything just clicked. Once I started listening and respecting nature and started being true to myself spiritually it seems as if a whole new world has opened up for me.

It's almost like someone has given me a new pair of glasses. Some how the world seems sharper. It's difficult to explain, but I am not just seeing the world with my eyes. I'm seeing it with my mind as well. I am now paying attention to the coincidences which are more like little truths that tell me there is a grander scheme at work. The universe is infinite. Everything that has happend or ever will happen is already happening. To the universe, time and space have no meaning. Humans invented them as a form of measurement to help us understand our lives.

Of all the things I know to be true, I know this: I am grateful to be alive and able to experience the joy of truly living. I wake up each day and give thanks to God and the universe and all the elements for this miraculous world they have created for us. I find joy in all the simple things, such as the wind rustling through the trees or the sun shining down on me. A summer rain is also refreshing. Birds and squirrels or other animals also bring joy. Life is love and love is life. We are surrounded by an infinite love, we need only to rejoice and give thanks for it.
